Sketches of Hampshire - Hursley 011_edited.jpg

On edge of the beautiful Hampshire Downs, sitting between Winchester, Southampton and Romsey, one could be forgiven for being beguiled by the picturesque parkland and majestic Hursley Park House into thinking that this sleepy corner of rural Hampshire has few stories to tell. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Its historical record reaches back to the seventh century, archaeological evidence even further, from there it stretches in an almost unbroken record to the present day and beyond!

This website aims to tell that story. To look at the House, the Gardens, the Park & Estate as well as the surrounding villages (especially the village of Hursley itself) both historically and at a personal level, telling the stories of those who lived and worked here.

Welcome

It also aims to encourage and enable further research, to act as a focal point for Community Projects that will undertake new research, conservation and restoration work. Visitors, especially those with  a personal connection, are encouraged to help by sharing their personal recollections and/or details of any items (e.g. documents, photographs etc.) to further enhance the site.

All feedback and comments, whether about the site or the content, are most welcome and will help improve the layout and content as well as helping to shape it's future direction.
